9D Germany

I'm not all that impressed with the way GamersFirst is handling 9Dragons. In fact, I don't know any player that is all that happy with GamersFirst. Fortunately we now have another option for our 9Dragons habit. The Games Campus version is available in a beta edition which means it's in a test phase. All characters created now will be wiped before the actual game play goes live. I don't think everyone playing now actually understands that.

TS and I started playing this a couple of days ago and it's going quite well despite the fact that TS doesn't speak German. I think that any reasonably experienced 9D player with Google Translator on hand will do just fine in this version. I think TS has only asked me for a couple of translations so far.

I've seen a few of our old friends (hi Mayen!) in game too, and a number of people have addressed me as SD despite the fact that I'm using a germanized version for the name of my new hybrid, AxtTreiber. TS is being as creative as usual with his character name.

The servers seem to be in great shape. I've only experienced a couple of momentary lags while lightfooting and I've never noticed a thing while grinding. The GM tools work and GM's are in game answering questions in English and German, and they are looking at problems too. For instance, the gate from the BoT clan map to Shi Zhang is blocked. It's sort of strange because you can easily go from Shi Zhang to Tai Shan. But the GM's came, took a look and made a few notes about it. That's why it's a beta/test phase after all. They even teleported a few players to Shi Zhang while they were there.

While we're playing this beta/test phase there are several events planned and they have been made public on the forums. How is that for a nice change? Events, planning, and posted to a public forum? It's refreshing. The Games Campus edition of 9Dragons has been described as the Korean version of the game with the US stat system. I'm not sure how accurate that is about the stats system, and I'm not going to do a detailed comparison. I just wanna play without any headaches.

There is some new material too. The tutorial map is a story of its own and is worth doing. There are new drops there that can be traded with a resource NPC (the tutorial NPC actually) for some goodies, some new quests, and some nice items for doing those quests. You can come out of the tutorial with a reasonable weapon, 4 pocket 50 defense clothes and your choice of a couple of epithets. It feels like a nice start, even for a veteran player.

Another topic dear to us is the disconnections issue. We are the Disconnected League after all. I haven't been disconnected yet by the game, not even on a map jump. I still get my 24 hour disconnection from my ISP though. There's nothing I can do about that.

There is no anti-hack system in place yet, but they know about it. Actually one of the players complained about this in the Games Campus forum and made certain to mention the problems we've seen in the G1 edition with the Viet players. The nice thing about the replies were that no one yelled RACISM, no threads were closed, no posts deleted, and no one was banned from the forum. Compared to the treatment we players get on the G1 forums this too is really refreshing.

Of course we were all happy to see G1 when they came on to the 9Dragons scene, and nobody is all that happy now. We were all convinced that they couldn't be worse than Acclaim, and they are. So I'll watch closely to see how things develop with Games Campus for now.

Still, they couldn't be worse than G1, could they? Could they?

Update: These guys just got even better. They announced almost 4 hours in advance that the server would be coming down for a mini-patch. But that isn't all they announced! In the forums they announced what they are trying to fix, and when the time of the next patch is likely to be.

Ha! Finally you started to play :D Told you it's refreshing :D Starter map is great and I did all quests with only basic knowledge of german. Other than that, you can replace NDTEXTDB_DE.XSD in your game folder/data/script with US version and you get all back in english. Except of course things that aren't translated in US (starter map and quests for example).

OH MY FRIGGIN GOD! (Caps off.)
Hello to all that still know me (probably only Chief and Red) and hello to all that don't, which, I guess, are the rest of the league members. I just happened to drop by since I was following a blog of one my friends, so I thought: "Hmm, what may have become of our beloved 9d disconnected community?"
Seems a lot has changed now, Acclaim gone, my old char gone (sniffsniff), people gone (such as Arai) etc...
Hope everyone's doing fine (apart from being frustrated of doing everything again), and a big GL HF to all of you still loyal to 9d and the league!

We're not actually going anywhere for now. The new version is still only a test version and a few of us are testing it. So far so good, and I far prefer the mentality too.

Hi Liu! School is going well I hope? Are we going to see you back in the game any time soon?

Hi Chief, hope you are doing great!

Well, currently I am studying at Aachen University, but since my course is like a double-course (I am studying both electrical engineering and linguistics), I don't have much time in general.
Besides, 9d is too grind-heavy in my opinion, esp. at Greater Boredom upwards (where I ended up with my first char). The fact that we will have to to the whole grinding all over again somehow discourages me from getting back to 9d. I will drop by the blog sometimes, so if the fun is back at some point, I might be back. But somehow, I get the feeling that it isn't getting any better...

Liu, I live in Aachen.

Join us in the IRC channel tonight. Let's get together for a beer.

Ah, so that's where you guys got to!

I wondered why Armpit league suddenly felt even more deserted than usual :(

Old DC members won't know me as I only joined this league in the G1 version of 9D, but my character name is evilOlive.

So, is this the future of 9D then? It certainly sounds like they are better organised than G1 have been so far.

They even mailed me back personally and said about being sorry for disappearing premium/bug.
