Jackie Chan and The Forbidden Kingdom

Posted by RedCross in

My wife and I are both fans of campy Kung Fu movies, and Jackie Chan has made a lot of them. A lot of people were waiting in anticipation for the first team up between Jackie Chan and Jet Li. They finally got together in a movie released this year called The Forbidden Kingdom.

Just like in most of his films Jackie Chan borrows heavily from other movies and this one is no exception. The story is almost The Wizard of Oz, except with a chinese historical perspective. The whole movie is pretty predictable and doesn’t have all that many funny moments, but I’m certain that 9Dragons players will enjoy the movie anyway. We did.

9Dragons players will recognize a lot of elements from the game we play, including a drunken beggar, a Shao monk, caster type characters, magic weapons and elixirs, and even characters using the LightFoot technique. There is a lot of great Kung Fu along the way too, just as you would expect from Jackie Chan and Jet Li. There is even one scene where the young hero wakes up in a bamboo forest, just like the introduction scenes in this game when you start a new character. It made me wonder if one of the writers plays this game.

Anyway, I just thought I would pass that on. I got to watch the film on the back of someone else airplane seat while flying back from Singapore a couple of weeks ago. I’m looking forward to seeing this one a big theater screen.
