The lag problem

Posted by SpearDriver in ,

I've been doing some testing today and I've found a few things that really help with the lag and disconnects we've all been getting on Bardo. There are a few things you can do to make the game playable. If Acclaim won't kill that adbar and the lag, we can do it ourselves.

First of all I want to remind every one about the IE privacy option that makes a difference. When you have IE open, under Tools/Internet Options/Privacy you should set that slider to maximum. That will stop a lot of the advertising from appearing on your screen. It will also make it impossible to buy coins from the coin mall. You'll either have to adjust that slider every time, or use FireFox like I do.

Secondly, uninstall Adobe's Flashplayer from your computer. A lot of the ads that really lag your system are flash ads. If the software to play them isn't on your system, you can't get the lag. Unfortunately there are many good sites that use Flashplayer too, so I leave the install package on my desktop and install when I need it. I can remove it again when I want to play.

And lastly, there is a system called OpenDNS that also helps. I don't know why or how, but it helps. If you install that and program your router to use their DNS lookup, you'll get faster access to the Bardo server. Because my Internet Service Provider only offers dynamic IPs, and they change every time I log into the internet, I have also installed the OpenDNS updater package.

What are you doing to fight the lag?
